The emotion comes from the music and the musicians, or more precisely, from some music, some musicians, some of the time. When this happens in a live concert it can be magical. When it happens through the medium of a recording and playback system it can be equally magical. But this isn't going to happen if the recording or the playback system don't measure up to a certain standard. So, for example, if a bright recording is played back on a flat or brighter than flat system the resulting screeching may cause pain, and the listener might be left with the wrong emotion: pain rather than joy or bliss.
One can judge a system by the fraction of reference recordings that allow the emotions in the music to pass through unimpeded. That to me is what "emotional" means in the context of playback systems.
