In Reply to: Isn't the real question how magazines could make their reviews more helpful to potential buyers? posted by Frihed89 on February 26, 2012 at 03:23:08:
For years I subscribed to Consumers Report and never bought anything they rated highly. I decided ultimately that they were worthless and that Amazon's consumer ratings were more valuable.
I see nothing wrong with multiple listeners rating a speaker, amp, etc., but given what I have seen here and elsewhere, there is little agreement. If we ended up with ten speakers with four stars rating, what would a consumer conclude? He or she are on their own or would they give greater trust to the guy who gave several one star? Road and Track often does this also, with some makes often getting the highest nod without much that would distinguish them from others.
Basically, I cannot imagine anything better than we have now.
