Home Planar Speaker Asylum

I've been following this thread with great interest...

... since the effects of s.hum's double inductor mod, combined with tube amplification, are similar to my MG1.6 crossover redesign. That is, the midrange gets emphasized.

So, the question is: is the stock crossover or the modded crossover closer to the truth?

I tried A/B'ing the MG1.6 against some 2-way and 3-way box speakers only to discover that both box speakers were too colored to make any determinations. The best I could do was to A/B the MG1.6 against headphones, and some walkman-type speakers with full-range drivers (ignoring the frequency extremes). I'm almost satisfied with the similarity between the sound of these and the MG1.6 with modded crossover, but I still find myself searching for what Acoustic Research used to advertise as "truth in listening". Thoughts?

(Maybe I ought to stop thinking about this and enjoy the music...)
