... since the effects of s.hum's double inductor mod, combined with tube amplification, are similar to my MG1.6 crossover redesign. That is, the midrange gets emphasized. So, the question is: is the stock crossover or the modded crossover closer to the truth?
I tried A/B'ing the MG1.6 against some 2-way and 3-way box speakers only to discover that both box speakers were too colored to make any determinations. The best I could do was to A/B the MG1.6 against headphones, and some walkman-type speakers with full-range drivers (ignoring the frequency extremes). I'm almost satisfied with the similarity between the sound of these and the MG1.6 with modded crossover, but I still find myself searching for what Acoustic Research used to advertise as "truth in listening". Thoughts?
(Maybe I ought to stop thinking about this and enjoy the music...)
