They were right on top of each other, and aligned as closely as I get could them.
That's my point. Because of the way the coils are constructed it's impossible to bind them together well enough to yield the original coil value. The slightest lateral/vertical offset spoils the ideal mutual coupling.
You could squeeze them in a vise and it wouldn't be any better.....probably worse because they would start to deform.The other point above is also good. A parasitic capacitance is now created because of the finite distance between coil "levels."
I would suspect S.Hums subjective listening differences are probably more related to a change in coil value than the decrease in DCR.
An interesting experiment nonetheless.
