I've mentioned this before buried in threads. There are a lot of dead presidents on bills and coins who owned slaves or had ideas that wouldn't fly by today's PC standards. Maybe we should replace the presidents with celebrities and sports stars. We could do championship MVPs. Of course they would need to be carefully vetted checking every twitter comment they have ever made.

Nothing. There's no reason to. There will ALWAYS be Leftist activists, and their willing sheeple followers, who whine and stomp their feet about one thing or another. There's no pleasing them, so ignore them. It's an election year - they're pulling out all the stops. Sad, though, that they're destroying so much property and killing people, to get their way.Next topic.

Beauty has to have a flaw and all the sinners are saints.
Benedict Arnold was the greatest of all our military commanders. One little mistake.
Nathan Bedford Forrest was the greatest of all Cavalry Commanders. One little mistake.
Douglas MacArthur gave Japan democracy and saved them from the Soviets. One dozen little mistakes.
And so on.
The Tango: A kind of Naval Engagement but without the Seamen
The very foundations of western civilization are flawed: the Greeks of Plato and Aristotle's day not only owned slaves but fucked young boys. Yet those same Greeks started the conversation about truth, justice and democracy on which the west is founded. You would do well to focus more on the message and less on the flawed messengers. But this doesn't excuse public memorials to Confederate officers. Americans should be more careful about the people and things they memorialize.

having 13% experience racism or having some statues and maybe currency altered?I suppose some would argue that there's no such thing as racism. Here's a guy who's black, attended an elite schook, and been a millionaire for a hell of a long time. Go ahead, click on it. You may not agree, but at least listen for a few moments. What "the other side" is saying is usually a good place to begin a civil conversation.

Otherwise, they wouldn't be targets of the protest movement. It seems to me that both sides are getting all worked up over symbols more than substance.
I get that black people are frustrated and angry because they're still on the losing end of systemic inequality. Improvement has been coming at a snail's pace in some places and not at all in other places. But most of the energy expended in this protest movement has been directed at symbols and tokens. So guess what I'm expecting we'll get? Symbolic change and token gestures.
...and there you have it in a nutshell.
It has been over 30 days since all this BS started, yet NO ONE has come to the table with a focused plan or proposal--not even a coherent or cohesive list of "talking points". There has been nothing but propagation of CHAOS.
"most of the energy expended in this protest movement has been directed at symbols and tokens. So guess what I'm expecting we'll get? Symbolic change and token gestures"
And you're absolutely correct!

I shared this story before but I think it is instructive.
We had a fair number of technicians on the high tech manufacturing lines, one in particular that helped me with a computer issue, shared his story with me. I've never forgotten it because I was so surprised by it.
He got really good with computers and computer machine control and we hired him. He was a great asset to our manufacturing lines. I asked him how he got so good at it. Basically he wanted to be able to earn money and buy nice things. Novel concept. When he took the job and started earning good money, his friends and some of his family disowned him. He told me they called him an Uncle Tom and he was working for "da Man". The pressure was for him to quit and become dependent on government handouts, like they were. There was a lot of crime in this neighborhood and at one time it was known as the crack capital of our area. Tony refused and ended up leaving his home neighborhood, buying a home in a nice part of town.
The point is, there is pressure on these potentially upwardly mobile black youths to not participate in meaningful work. Thankfully, Tony made the right choice and is doing very well because of it.
Why is there this cultural push to not work for the white man and stay dependent on government handouts? It doesn't make any sense.
'He told me' .... really Dave? this guy just opened up to you and said everything you expected him to say? almost like he was scripted? and in such rich detail ... amazing.
perhaps he was manipulating you with the calculation that word would get back to management on what a 'magical negro' they had on their hands looking to cash in on your wide eyed naiveté. surely with the distance of years and experience you can look back and see this might be the likeliest explanation for what would otherwise be very strange behavior from a nearly total stranger.
Why is there this cultural push by the white man to delegitimize the efforts of black youth to become upwardly mobile?
with regards,
We were a close knit group, working a lot of hours together.
Tony assured me it was real and he had to break out of it because it was toxic.
Why is this happening in black America culture? Why do they shun their own when they work a good job and become successful?
replace 'they' in your last sentence with 'Tony' & you won't be so confused
I don't care how much you knit together
you were still being played like a fiddle
I was going to say 'violin' but I know you're just not that into classical

Here is a novel idea for the disadvantaged protesters.
Go to school. Pay attention and learn, then find a way to earn $$$ like a job or start a business.
Working full-time will leave you too tired for protests, rioting, looting and defacing historical monuments.
Stop being a crybaby and making excuses about not having a good life.
'Pay attention and learn'
here's a novel idea for you ... take your own advice
be well,
Our black CEO is having us undergo diversity training. They will pay me. I will sit and listen to their rhetoric.
Ultimately, it will make no difference.
The job will get done by middle aged white men as usual.
Nothing will change from all the pissing and moaning from the leftists.

The CEO of my company is black and a millionaire too.
Salary of $2 million US per year.
He was groomed to replace an older white CEO who retired.
Another unfortunate victim of systemic white racism.
My heart bleeds for this poor man.
Nice bit of whataboutism.
We have recently promoted a woman to manager of our manufacturing plant in Michigan.
She has ZERO engineering experience and comes from an HR background.
It would have been a brilliant diversity move except for the fact that she is white.
Like it's 4 in the Fortune 500.
Ah, the dangers of a sample of one...
Black people make up a majority of elite athletes. I don't think that this is seen as reverse discrimination by most whites. Blacks do well as entertainers. There are many things that blacks excel at, but if they lag in an area, it's discrimination, or maybe it's not. Maybe it's a viewpoint.
all about ability.
Regarding your point: you do know it always wasn't like that, right? You have heard of the Negro leagues? Jackie Robinson and his heroic struggles? The white SEC and how getting their butts whipped by Minnesota (my alma mater!) who had the terrific QB Sandy Stevens changed its racism?
And in entertainment: you have heard of "black minstrel shows" and "blackface?" And you do know that black stars are a VERY recent Hollywood dynamic?
Employment success is a function of many things, education primarily--- and a color-blind hiring process. African-Americans face hurdles that white folks don't--- though many equally poor whites have special challenges, too (their schools suck, as well). It's the percentages of poverty that make the difference. If you want to investigate how and why black folks have been challenged to reach the American dream, I can help you with that question, too. It's history.
I'm probably older than you are. My college football team was all white. This was about black CEOs of Fortune 500 companies and why they don't have at least 16% black CEOs.
So then you say that sports are all about ability and that's why blacks excel at sports. They are no longer held back because of discrimination in sports. The same world we live in that so readily accepts black athletes because of their superior athletic abilities at some things, discriminates against them in the business world. In business, they are held back because of race. This sounds like discrimination exists only where blacks may not exceed.
treated. Education. Health. Incarceration. We have a lot of work to do. It ain't a zero sum game.Who's to blame for the fact the middle-class hasn't gained any economic ground in 30 years. Black folks? Or is it a collapse of wages? The wealthiest Americans have grown even fatter. For the 50s and part of the 60s, they fattened up more slowly, and everyone profited.
Remember Henry Ford raising his auto workers' wages in what, the 20s? He understood that if he didn't pay higher wages, no one could afford to buy his car--- he made a conscious decision to be an example.

took a big chance on their buying GM eh?
couldn't drive it to work, but still
regards,
That depends on the career field or geographic location.
The company I work for has affirmative action and diversity programs but we end up hiring middle aged white men for most engineering and lab technician positions.
Why?
Because there are a lack of diversity candidates to interview and even fewer that would meet minimum qualifications.
A new generation of minority community activists and protesters will not significantly change anything in regard to hiring for STEM careers, IMO.
I worked for a major oil company most of my career. They hired mostly fresh out of college engineers, geologists, geophysicists etc. The company liked to mold people into the company way. Candidates interviewed had to graduate in the top 10% of their class. We hired many black engineers. Some made it into management as did some women. Everyone was force ranked every year. The bottom 15% of each grade were put on probation at 6 months. The people that couldn't claw their way up were let go. The next year they hired a new batch. The key was NOT to get promoted too quickly. You might not be able to breath the atmosphere at the top. I always felt like it was a horse race.
Good.
Antifa losers should take after the black engineers - get a damn job.
where is this fabulist job of yours?

if it's for whites, it's okay. Same for the Senate: teenie little states get as much of a voice as giants CA, TX, and FL.

OK by me.

At least the white settlers killed first , then took a scalp.
The Natives got it backwards.

...Some local retailers won't accept cash at self checkouts because they can't get coins for the change dispensers. Difficult to believe there's a shortage, but there it is. Next, we should change paper currency to something more colorful than the drab grey/green motif we (US) currently has.. Themes could then change to colorful, non-politically charged nature scenes from around the country, animals, butterflies etc. Of course, this assumes that "cash" should exist at all. It's awfully anonymous in the age of total perspective tracking. Maybe the real solution is abolishment of physical cash altogether.
Abolishment of physical cash is coming at some point. Reminds me, I better dig up those cans I planted in the back yard before it's too late.
After a hurricane, when all of the power and electronics are down for weeks, we'll be up the creek. Gas and staples (bread, water, peanut butter) was cash only for weeks after Katrina. We always replenish our hurricane stash tin during the season just in case.

No Twitter or social media posts to worry about.
They might have scalped a few white settlers but who cares?
