Jolida? DIY? Old console amp? Dyna 35?

Hi Rich;

Here are some thoughts:
1. Jolida 102 or 202. The 102 is a PP EL84 with a stellar rep - I've got a Jolida 202 (more pricey PP EL34) and it's been a good little amp. There's a part of me that wishes I'd saved the $$ and gone with the 102 though - it's a nice looking little amp, and it would have had plenty of power for me.

2. If you're handy with a soldering iron, and don't mind spending the time to build one, there are plenty of PP EL84 amp designs out there. If you would be satisfied with less power, you could also consider an SET EL84 or 6BM8 - figure around 3 wrms output at best, but with a high efficiency Fostex fullrange driver, that's enough for most uses.

3. If you're not quite as skilled, but are willing to learn, you could also try to find an old console amp, then rebuild it. The advantage of this is that if you're lucky, you can find one more-or-less free, when someone tosses out an old console hifi (it's happened here....).

4. Failing all the above, there's the Dyna Stereo 35; see if you can find one used and rebuild it.

***IMPORTANT!!!*** If you EVER decide to do your own work (rebuilding/scratchbuilding) you MUST learn and obey all the safety rules for working with high voltages!! Valve amps have LETHAL voltages under the hood.

Good luck with whatever you choose and all the best,
Morse
