that IMO one can achieve better sound for low-powered triodes with a "tweaked" LaScala than the Soliloquy SM-2A3. The SM2A# retails for $1595 with stands. It's specs are 91 dB, 10 Ohm nominal, and it uses a 'hybrid" 3rd order Xover.A pair of LaScalas can be picked up used for ~ $800 (new ~$1900). Refinish, reinforce and damp the bass horn (Deflex or similar), damp the mid and tweeter horns, pull the Xover out of the cabinet and upgrade it (e.g. Hovland, Alpha-core) or redesign it, install it in a separate sand-filled and damped box a la the eXemplars, put a good pair of binding posts on them (e.g. Edison Price) and for the same money as the SM-2A3 or less, you have a true horn with 104 dB efficiency and an 8 Ohm impedance. You could even set the Xover up to bi-amp(passive)with a pair of 2A3s or a 45 and a 2A3.
In my book, if you are willing to do the work, this is a better choice for a flea amp than the "easy-to-swallow" Cat Coffin. Granted, not as easy as plunking down 16 big ones and taking the box home and opening it.
