I have heard the Medallion/Moondog, albeit in less than ideal set-up and with only a CD source. Very beguiling midrange, light on the bottom (but I truly think this was the set-up - flanking a bay window with no corner reinforcement). Not as transparent as possible, but the Moondog is cap coupled and this could be a contributor.If your friend goes this way, I strongly recommend the Ultimate upgrade. Another option is to go with the Medallion kit (assuming your friend is handy or can conscript someone who is)with the Jena wire and Edison Price upgrades and Doc's Paraglows, even with the KR2A3s (now that Jack has allowed them to be rehabilitated;-)). That's ~$4500 with the Paraglows assembled, less with the kit. Pretty close to the Welborne package price.
