Everyone: I sincerely thank all of you for your concern. However, let me first clarify some things further and let all of you off the hook. It took me almost 30 years of being in love with this hobby to appreciate, afford and build my current system which, for me, brings me endless hours of joy. During that wonderful journey, I have NEVER made a purchase I regretted -- that doesn't mean I never made a bad purchase or one that, after extended listening or further age & widom, turned out not for me. Rather, they were all great learning experiences and most of all FUN! I've tried to make it clear in my posts that I am happy with my main system and am doing this for fun in a bedroom system and with no expectations except curiosity and fun. Since I am not married and have no children, I can afford to buy this system and sell it if it's not for me.

I hope I am not offending anybody, butI am not looking to the three wise men alone to make this decision, I am not in love with Sam Tellig, nor am I just hopping on the "trendy bandwagon." (although, even if I was, so what?). I am reading all the tube rags I can, pouring over the various sites, archives of AA, talking to various people in this hobby I do trust and trying to put together an understanding, albeit limited, of what to do, what NOT to do and just what SET is all about. Normally I wouldn't feel the need to defend myself (or my own spending habits) but you guys have always been very helpful and I appreciate what I think you are trying to do. Besides, has everyone who posts here ALWAYS known EVERYTHING about their decisions to purchase equipment and, therefore, never taken a risk. My risk is definitely a calculated one which I am undertaking with anticipation, joy and fun.

My next point is more practical. There are NO SET dealers within 400 miles of me demonstrating a 2A3 amp (let alone with Lowthers or horns). When I went to buy my first REAL high-end system I had the ability (living in Phoenix and then L.A.) to audition tons of different gear and did it ad nauseum for months. I don't have that same luxury now. I also have developed, changed and, I hope, matured over the years to appreciate certain qualities in music and its reproduction I just couldn't have years ago. Accordingly, I have a pretty good handle on what type of music, sonics and "hi-fi qualities" (for lack of a better phrase) I appreciate and treasure. It is based on ALL of these factors that over the last few years I became interetsed in possibly trying SET in a second system. Now I am just going to take the plunge and try to do it justice and play around and learn from there. If it is not for me, fine, I now have a greater appreciation for my main system and I chalk it up to a learning experience as I have many times before in all endeavors in life. If it IS for me, then I'll have another system to twaek, play with, chat with you guys about and, most of all, sooth my spirit before retiring for the night.

I simply wanted to try and answer an question for a buddy who was wondering if anyone had heard the Moth 2A3 vs. the Moondog -- I guess the answer is no. So please accept my thanks for all of your help and please realize that I am not like so many in our society who will look to blame others if this decision turns out badly. Besides, sometimes for me it's a pain in the arse to be too anal and a lot more fun to be impulsive and fly by the seat of my pants! Take care & happy listening everyone!

Frank P
