I agree that part of the motivation for people trying it the "wrong" way is economics. I think that it might also be aesthetic. It seems that most speakers that work well with SETs are horns which tend to be relatively large systems. I know that I would have a rough time fitting them into my living room (and getting them past the wife). That said, can any SET-heads reading this think of any conventional box speakers that would truly work well with SETs? (I'm assuming here that even speakers like the Coincidents, Silverlines, ProAcs, etc. are not TRULY optimal systems for SETs.)
