Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Re: Well....

........."Thats funny, It was great back then? "

I'm trying to be nice. It was still overpriced back then. From an engineering standpoint, the woofers are too big, too underdamped, the midranges too small for the woofers. The actual 4-way Nautilus speaker makes some sense though.

.........."They are 14yo FYI. And I will put the up to many speakers made now."

Then you'd lose. I'd have a hard time coming up with anything over $5K that *isn't* better at this point.

..........."What speakers are you using?"

NHT Xd. But that's unfair, those are better than B&W 800Ds. At least if you like transparency and not what I call "The Picasso Effect".

..........."I thought you said older B&W are better than new ones."

I meant the ones with polypropylene midranges. Also giving them some handicapping for their age.

............"What happens if the store you work starts selling B&W?"

Never going to happen. My store, I get to sell what I like. B&W would have to drop its prices in half and fix three key things - the 10kHz treble peak, get a new midrange, and fix the midbass boom.
