General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Re: I guess...

Well, we'll just have to disagree. The 630 with poly had MUCH better midrange than the 640 with Kevlar. The 640 did have better bass, but that was it. I only sold 630s. At the time, I didn't know why I didn't like the 640s because I was a relative newbie. However, I later traded in those very same speakers from two different people and was able to compare them side to side again. No comparison, the 630's midrange was smoother and more natural. I also traded in some Matrix 3 II and was surprised just how great they sounded. Way better than the 803s that replaced them. And much better built too. I've got stories about that too.

If the 800s are that good, why would someone trade them in for NHTs and Meridians that were 1/3 and 1/2 the price? Both the NHT and Meridian speakers had notably deeper bass. Obviously, when you look at the 800s, you imagine deep bass, but that's not what you get. I'd say they hit mid 30s with a nice big peak at best. The Meridian bass was just their little D1500 10" woofer and while it wouldn't play as loud, it sounded better and went deeper at normal volumes. Sorry.
