Monteux is probably my favorite "old school" conductor. Not as aggressive as Toscanini, or as eccentric as Furwangler or as super-taught as Reiner -- and one can hear Monteux in vintage mono without needing to absorb "the full Monty" of ancient 78's to get a taste of authentic powers. Anyway, I just bumped into this recent Music and Arts set that contains many familiar Monteux specialties -- in LIVE accounts -- that have never seen the light of day before. Hadda grab a copy!:-)...
