He grew up in a house with lots of music: jazz, classical, pop. He took piano lessons for several years from a couple of uninspired teachers and was an undistinguished student. Changed to another teacher, an older lady, Julliard grad, with a great reputation, and was captivated. Months later, won an honorable mention in the junior division of a local competition. Caught fire. Spent 6 weeks each of the last two summers at a chamber music camp, Kinhaven in Vermont. Loved it. Now he spends hours each day playing Beethoven, Chopin Lizt, Schumann.
We've always been aware that if you force a kid to do something, it's harder for him to come to love it. At times over the years we have nagged him to practice, but the pressure was very minimal. Then the love took over. He simply loves music.
