Sorry to hear about your friend.I started riding in 1964 and stopped in 1996. In my last two years of riding I was rear ended twice while stopped and intentionally run off the road north bound on Highway 1. My wife was a passenger on her friends bike that got T-boned by a driver running a stop light and her ankle gets worse every year.
Unfortunately all my years of skill and experience were of little help in these collisions. I gave up street riding and rode on the local tracks (not racing) for a couple of years and finally let it go. After becoming a parent my priorities changed dramatically and I have almost no regrets. This is the time of year I miss riding the most here in California.
