When's the last time they played the others on my list? And of course my list is EXTREMELY abreviated. There are many more 20th composers whose work deserves to be performed by the best orchestras in the world. Here in NYC the Phil. had a European tour cancelled. They're replacing it with a Beethoven festival. Thirteen days of Beethoven.Personally I find Cage's entire concept to be ridiculous (all sound, or lack thereof, is music), but since you could probably count the number of performances of Cage's music by symphony orchestras all over the world on one hand, I hardly think he's responsible for lack of ticket sales and funding. Nor is any other "modern" composer. I can only hope you wouldn't put Bartok, Hindemith, Strauss, Barber, Debussy in the same category as Cage. BTW - Barber is the only one on your list who has composed something in the last 50 years.
