Audio Synthesis Passion vs Pass Aleph P

Hi I recently bought a pass aleph P and was very happy with it. I thought this had to be one of the best preamplifiers ever made. Well this might be a slightly over the top, but compared to what I've heard it is good (Krell KRC2, KRC3, the cd/preamp from krell, several ML preamps, ARC, bryston, aitos, KR, etc). But last week I stumbled upon a Audio Synthesis Passion and bought it just for fun, with the purpose of reselling it. When I came home I hooked it up and I was knocked out of my chair this @#$% small 'cheap' passive preamp was blowing my Aleph P away. Not just in a few areas, but all over the place, soundstage (wider/deeper/more accurate), bass (more depth), speed, tonal accuracy and even dynamics!! The only advantages the Aleph P has over the Passion is, that it is more relaxed sounding(bad records are 'tolorable'), the adjustable gain (so I can use my crappy phonostage) and the balanced in and outputs (cheaper interlinks better sound). My question is, is this normal or is my Aleph P defective or something, because people say that the dynamics drop when using a passive preamp, but it increases GREATLY. Or do I just have to face the fact that my aleph P is becoming a part of audio legends and is its design outdated now?

I'm looking forward to any reply's
