In the paper I was referring to “Multitone Testing…” they are trying to deal with the issue of overlapping IM-products with logarithmically distributed frequencies and for a 20 tone sequence in the 1 to 10 kHz band the frequencies are:

1833.0 Hz
2069.1 Hz
2335.7 Hz
2636.7 Hz
2976.4 Hz
3359.8 Hz

10 000 Hz

This seems to work well but the problem that arises now is the frequency-resolution of the FFT.
