The cap value and ESR at 120Hz are fairly critical to the design. Significant changes in the ESR can radically change the behavior of the supply. Going with a different cap model is fine as long as the ESR is within 50% or so of the specified cap. Getting out of that range is going to cause strange things to happen.
The Triads are not sacred. Other transformers with similar ratings will work as well. I like them because they are inexpensive and well built with a wide range of values and ratings. I can pretty much asume I can find a triad that will work for just about anything I want to do.
