What is the issue of sharing the PCI bus (assuming your PC does)? The PCI bus is more than adequate to move 16/44 music data and do a lot more at the same time.

Well according to CICs in his paper, you want your sound card that is on the PCI buss to be by itself:

USB drives are not good as disk traffic clutters PCI bus.
All soundcards (USB, PCI or Ethernet) operate of motherboard’s generic PCI bus hence avoid bus sharing


Adding internal drives will add heat to the PC which may mean louder fan noise. It will also add additional load on the PC power supply (perhaps adding more electrical noise to the power rails, and perhaps additional RFI as well).

True, but in this case though, the HDDs would have their own PSU.

I suppose the best solution is the esata one as it seems to not use the pci buss and it is external. Kind of a win win I think.
