As for using an internal SATA drive, I thought the basic idea was that all disc access during playback was avoided? If so, then vibration caused by the rotating platter should be minimal at worst. It's the heads seeking that causes vibration.
If you still want to use external drives and (for whatever the reason) don't want to use USB, then look into eSATA, as others have mentioned. You could probably use your existing hard drives by taking them out of their current USB enclosures and putting them into external enclosures with eSATA interfaces.
