Well, you do change it up quite a bit ;-) But I do understand the need for a tidy setup especially in a space shared with others.
"What value does the ultraRendu add and should I put it back? "
That's a matter of opinion. If the Mini + Ayre QB-9 DSD DAC are doing a great job for you, then there's no reason to include the ultraRendu in the same rack.... in my opinion.
I presently have my Mac Mini attached to my RME DAC which drives my 2-channel audio system but the Mac also drives my big screen TV if desired. The audio quality is fantastic but it's also nice to have quality audio to go with the TV if I'm streaming YouTube videos or whatnot.
I additionally have my microRendu attached to my GainCell DAC in the same rack driving the same 2-channel setup but I rarely use it. The difference in quality between the two setups is negligible - I would even say that the Mac Mini to my RME DAC sounds slightly better. However, the Mac Mini is driving the better sounding DAC. As I often say, my conclusion is that the DAC makes the biggest difference in SQ in the digital chain rather than the source hardware (computer or network streamer). YMMV.
