The M33 won all those accolades for its many capabilities in addition to the basic power amp inside. That internal power amp is, essentially, the NAD C298 (currently $2,399) and it would be a better comparison to a Purifi-based amp assembled by a small company or an enthusiast. For that, see below."Would a garage-built DIY job using the Purifi Eval board have matched the M33 sound?" Well, ignoring your disparaging DIY reference, I'd guess "yes" even though many of us would pay the increment to have NAD standing behind our amp.
