Jeffrey,You are very welcome... and I suspect you are one of the Jeffreys of the former Two-Jeffreys Audio, so if you are, you helped train me in this as I made several capacitor purchases from you guys. I've been doing parts upgrades since the late '70's, but that process took a large step forward when the original WonderCaps became available such as what I got from you guys.
Sorry about my mistake on describing my mods... yes, it was in the woofer to midrange crossover and on the midrange side. Also sorry about not checking the capacitor type you recommended before I replied... I only had to look at the Percy catalog to see that they were NP caps... heck, they were the other one I looked at for my LFT-VI crossovers.
I haven't put the 470uf electrolytics back in... Good idea. I'll be doing some further mods to the speakers this fall and winter, I'll start that off by trying them and listening for the differences.
My experiences after putting the upgraded crossover in was a sense of increased intelligibility... spoken words, lyrics, subtle details, different lines within complex arrangements, all were easier to hear. I used the same high-frequency bypasses and mid-tweeter crossover caps with this upgrade that I'd used before, so I didn't hear a lot of treble differences when I did the crossover upgrades.
The crossover upgrade also included replacing the inductors with Solens, mounting them all on a damped piece of Corian, and damping the big caps and inductors with Sorbothane.
Before you change these caps in the LFT's, you want to measure them. My 470uf caps actually measured 450uf. By going with a slightly higher value here, I got more mid-woofer overlap and a bit more warmth... not a bad result too.
BTW, I moved to Minneapolis from Fort Wayne, IN, in the late '80's. I've had winter all my life... that's when I do audio, I fly model airplanes in the summer. But I can get where you are at about the snowbelt.
