Fyi, I was forced to use my Ashly's because the Eminents were so inefficient that they actually turned the Moscode's protection circuitry on !
I have owned 3 Moscode 600's in a 25 year period, and driven everything from Martin Logan Monoliths to B&W 801's, and NEVER activated protection before.
So, In desperation, I went to my Ashly's.
Now, the Ashly's I use is a version made for Kelmar systems, a company who did very high end movie screening studios World Wide.
They use the old, can type Mosfets, like the Old B&K stuff used to use.
My pair are very highly modified.
The fan has been slowed down because Mosfets sound better HOT!
The Input DC blocking Electrolytic has been jumpered, and the few caps in the signal path have all been changed.
The Power supply caps have been changed, and increased.
I can change the sound of the amps radically with different power supply caps, and I have several pairs that i use, depending on the speakers I am using the amps with.
Since I had Magnepan MG 3A's, these caps were selected because they have a very clean, airy top end.
The MG3 ribbon tweeter will not tolerate any nonesense.
I removed the Output Inductors for the Magnepans, but still watched the amps behavior on a scope for Oscillation.
I used them this way on the Eminents since they dont present a capacitive load.
Thats what an ouitput inductor is for, to protect the amp from a nasty load.
The Eminents are not a nasty load, so I left them out.
When I go to Electrostatics, I put em back in.
The protection circuitry has also been minimized, and the input board has new, better driver transistors.
I assure you, the modified Ashly is a match for most any amp.
Its a far cry from a PA amplifier, and even in its stock form will still outperform many so called " high end" amps.
The amp bridges with the push of a button for about 500 watts RMS into 8 ohms, stock.
My improved drivers make the Mosfets dance, and mine will do even more then that.
I used them as Monoblocks, right behind the Eminents, with 3 foot runs of cables, 12 guage.
I even tried some 14 guage too, just for kicks.
I have several pairs of long interconnects that i use to alter the sound, and of course I tried them too. Now, regarding the Tylers, yes i have dogged them, and i consider them merely an AudioGon speaker.
And, I have never heard them.
Aint interested either.
Why ?
Because in over 25 years in this Hobby, I have made many friends whose ears I trust who have heard them.
My friends, who are several Industry Insiders, Dealers, Manufacturers, Etc have told me they arent anything special.
Some went even further and said they could clearly hear crossover problems, box, etc.
I have had enough friends, who dont even know each other, say enough bad things to me, that I have formed my opinion about them.I dont know how many Audio shows you have attended in your life ?
Usually, if everyone is buzzing about say the Wilson or Von Schweikert exhibit, you will find good sound there.
Conversly, if enough people say the Tyler exhibit sound like shit, it probably will.
My opinions are based on many people who have not only heard them at shows, but in fellow Audiophiles homes, etc.
Some dealer friends have taken them in on trade, and listened to them as well.
I have never heard one good thing about them from anyone, except that they were pretty.
If we met at CES, and i told you i heard The Von Schweikert VR 11's sounded really good from everyone, would you be angry ?
So, why get mad when I relay the findings of plenty of veteran Audiophiles in relation to the Tylers ?
Do you own them little boy ?
Did the mean old Ka7niq hurt your ego ?
So SorryAnd, finally, for your information, I am in actual Posession of the Von Schweikert Vortex Screens, they arrived last week.
There are but 3 pairs in existence, and Albert may, or may not place them in actual production.
He doesnt feel that the extremely wide baffle design he is using will gain acceptance in the market.
I purchased them, and they are breaking in right now, as we speak.
Yes, they do use a 15 inch woofer with a 3 inch voice coil, and a 30 pound Magnet, so what ?
Jealous ?
They use a Horn Loaded Morel tweeter, and two proprietary d'appolito midranges.
The Morel tweeter was used for better time alignment on a flat baffle.
Its slightly recessed due to its horn loading.
The speakers are highly efficient, and due to the very wide baffle, have a huge wave launch.
Albert owned Magnepans years ago, and loves the big wall of sound that big Maggies generate.
The Vortex Screens weigh about 500 lbs, the pair, and kick ass, and take names.
They image like a mother funker too, big, wide, deep, and dramatic.
On movies, they will make you piss your pants because of their high efficiency.
I am powering them with an old Sumo Andromeda right now, and though they are far from being fully broke in, they are awesome speakers in every regard.
Here is the "proof" your inquiring ass requires, and next time you basically accuse me of being a liar, think again, huh ?
