For adding quality bass to your Maggies without cluttering up your room, here's what I suggest:
Get two small subs that can be hidden behind each of the Maggies, so that the in-room footprint of your system is not increased at all. Get subs that have a phase reversal switch (I think most do). A steep-slope lowpass filter won't be real important in this application, but you will want a fairly low minimum crossover frequency available, like 40 Hz or lower.
The reason of the phase reversal switch is, you can try them with the phase reversed on one. On most recordings you'll still have plenty of bass, you'll have a smoother low-frequency soundfield than if they were both in-phase, and you'll be getting a more spacious-sounding presentation. Flip it back in-phase for movie soundtracks or pipe organ or synth uberbass.
Best wishes,
Duke
Me being a dealer makes you leery?? It gets worse... I'm a manufacturer too.
