Ken, have you noticed the Lack Triangular Side Table?

It is exactly one half of the Lack Side Table and its geometry is near perfect for Regas. Imagine a Lack cut diagonally across the top for 2 bucks less. Even the three legs are triangular halfs of the square tables legs. You would think that Roy Gandy himself was doing part time design work for the nice folks at Ikea. Pass the meat balls Roy.

I have been using one of these tables in my spare room system with Planar 2, on and off, for a few years now. I recently installed M8 adjustable spikes in the leg ends, using press fit brass threaded inserts. I am convinced that it sounds better than my stock Sound Organisation Floor Stand wrt Rega support. I also have a Rega wall shelf, and in this particular room the Lack seems to do a better job (flimsy walls). Levelling is a breeze by virtue of the 3 point contact, and it looks rather cool with a Rega on top for a paltry $12.95 plus spike hardware.

BTW, the knuckle rap test gives a different, albeit still hollow, sound than that of the square Lack. The decay seems somewhat more rapid, although camparison testing was carried out at the local Ikea where 'acoustics' is Swedish for 'noisy place'.

I was thinking of filling the top with expanding polystyrene foam to further reduce/eliminate the hollow resonance. I recall reading some years ago that some UK retailers were recommending cutting out a large portion of the bottom surface of the top to 'open the box'. I haven't seen the inside construction of one of these tops, but I believe they are a skin over a matrix or lattice. Any thoughts?

Your leg bracing idea makes sense. Home Depot here I come.

Thanks,

Flat
