Rega Elys or Shure 15Vx or Grado Platinum??? help!

I currently have a Rega Planar 2 turntable with a 7 month old Elys cartridge mounted.

I am rather dissapointed with the dark, closed-in and bass heavy sound (recessed midrange, etc) of this setup (hooked up to my sumiko phono box (in MM mode) and NAD C740 receiver and AE aegis 1 speakers). I was wondering if this has to do with the cartridge wear, but apparantly the Elys is a very bass heavy cartridge, which brings me to the question:

should i get the cartridge re-tipped (i don't know how much $ this costs) or should i just buy a new Shure 15Vx or Grado Platinum or competing cartridge? i want the midrange clarity and presence that i have coming out of my CDP if at all possible.
