Since I didn't *build* the preamp(note: the brand is Emotive), I cannot comment. Globes got microphonic, and even the meshplate STs eventually whined. Bare in mind, that I have a high gain system, with 100db efficiency speakers, so noisey tubes (of all types) are a significant problem anyway, much more so than other systems.
