current draw you are putting on it. Too much and the tube, new or used, will not last long. I use 27's among others and I find that it, new or good used, lasts a good long while, if the operating points, right current draw and voltage, are correct. Noise will go up if it is being asked to draw too much current.ja in clear and another hot day, Tucson, AZ
