Seriously - if you can't bring your speakers 2-3' out into the room, go with bookshelf speakers. Most floorstanders don't image well near the wall and often sound quite bloated in the lower registers. ML electrostatics need about 4-5 clearance from the wall for best results in most rooms.
But always let your ears decide, and your room. The room is going to be as big a factor as anything. And make sure your amp can compliment them too. being able to drive them is one thing, but being able to bring out the best in them is another thing altogether.
