... CAT5 is Category 5 multiconductor (8) cabling commonly used in home and office LANs. Conductors are 22-ga single strand copper, Teflon-insulated (ideally). I generally use leftover plenum-grade cabling from work. one cable "+", one "-", twisted together. Many more or less esoteric CAT5 cable receipes may be found here at the Tweaker's asylum.The (unbalanced) I/C's are made from two twisted strands of 30-ga, enamel-insulated copper magnet wire from Radio Shack. RCA's are nickel-plated low-end models from R/S as well.
I can't say these are the best cables in the world, but they sound much better than "Monster"-esque cabling, are far cheaper, and fun to build.
