I've quite a bit of bluegrass on vinyl and one of my favorites is Don Reno's "Fastest Five Strings Alive." With Red Smiley he recorded secular and sacred numbers revered by serious fans. Kind of an urbane sound--remember, bluegrass grew out of those bars in midwestern working towns as well as in the mountains.J.D. Crowe is another veteran whose hammerons and pulloffs are distinctive, very bluesy. He usually has a first rate band with him when he tours, too.
