RE: Best sounding cd version of Jazz Samba?

Hello, Dmitry. Thank you for posting. It's been a long time since I heard the Verve ME edition. I let mine go after buying the DCC.

The DCC has a dead quiet background and the playing is very smooth. That said, the guitar is slightly buried in the mix so that you can't clearly hear some of what he's doing. As a guitar player, this is what I want to hear.

Fwiw, I bought two other masterings of JS. One is on Fresh Sounds and claims to be in 24 bits. The music doesn't sound any more present than the DCC which predates 24 bits by at least two years. Plus, when Getz punches out a note, it red lines and is uncomfortable to listen to. I recently let that one go to an ebay buyer who seemed to only care about getting JS on the same disc as Big Band Bossa.

The other remastering I bought is on Essential Jazz Classics which also claims to be 24 bits and does sound more present than the DCC. Also, the guitar is brought up more clearly in the mix though not all the way up to the sax. And the playing is not at all harsh. This is the best version I've found.

The only other version I know of is part of the five disc box of all of Getz's bossa albums that Verve issued in 2008. Happily, a good friend has that and we plan to give JS a spin next time I'm over there.
