After listening to this on my friend's system, I bought the five cd set to compare with the Essential Jazz Classics 24 bit version.
The remastered VME version is quieter and the guitar is somewhat more up in the mix than in previous masterings. However, in the EJC, it's clearer yet and easier to hear.
A quick listen to the four other discs in the set reveal that they're more revealing than the original cds. Your mileage on these may vary.
