I find it hard to believe that in the 50-odd years since his death, no rock guitarist has developed the technical skills to surpass him. If one wishes to insist Hendrix was the "best" due to his innovative and influential shtick/style, fine. He was first to the party and all that jazz. I get it. But Jimi checked out at the tender age of 27 and spent much of his life stoned. Nor do I think his stint in Vietnam would have afforded him many opportunities to hone his craft. So it strains credibility to insist he was the best guitarist in rock history. Some will say he was the best due to his large hands. But I'm not buying it. Plenty of other guitarists have large hands. Nostalgia is a lasting and stubborn thing to overcome.
