I've got an XPA-3 and love it. It's built like a tank and sounds good. Make sure you have room. It is bigger and heavier than my receiver. You could do worse than the Yamaha A820. Audyssey multiEQ xt32 is generally considered the best room Eq especially for multiple subs, that usually means Onkyo or Denon, but to get pre outs you have to go pretty far up the Denon model list. With only one sub, you may find the YPAO in the Yamaha works fine. I've had good luck with the YPAO in my RX-V3900.
