Well, I'll keep this short because I feel it is getting old. They may reccomend everything, but by saying "If you don't mind such and such and so and so, this could be the amp for you." To me, that makes sense.
What's wrong with having an A+ list? Newer technologies and improvements raise the bar for the best components. In stead of bumping a lot of components from A, they just create a newer category for the newest and most ground breaking components. That way, a class A component will be so for a while, because it is a good component, but equipment improves.
I feel that a car ad is fine. It helps pay for the magazine, and it has its place there. Afterall, if someone has the money for a $20,000 amp, they most likely have enough for a BMW, or at least dream of having one. And yes, I agree that the looks have changed a lot and now look more like what you said. But I would assume that this could be to attract newer readers with the "hip" looking magazine. And the faithful readers shouldn't mind unless the content changes.
So yes, my opinion does differ. The only thing that agitates me is when someone either bashes Stereophile because of only 138 pages, or they say that they are corrupt as it is fact. I don't deny that they could be corrupt, but saying it as fact requires undeniable proof, in my opinion.
Take care,
Neil
