General audio topics that don't fit into specific categories.

just a gainclone owner but

24.176.253.107

i have auditioned the gaincard.

i have to say that of the several op-amp based amps i have heard they all in general exhibit the same top-to-bottom completeness in the amount of information presented.

and because of their output impedance are able to control the drivers like ss or tubes cannot.

the same speakers driven by the op-amp and tubes will show a greater degree of bass control and information in the low-end when driven with the op-amp.

during even the loudest passages the low-end is still 100% there with nothing getting softened.

i have not found speaker matching to be critical as i have used a wide variety wrt sensitivity.

i can tell you that they dont really like low impedance speakers of less than 4ohm but what amps do ?

even when i had accidentally wired a set of speakers so the amp saw a 1ohm load it still played but got distorted with the low freq info.

the sound is grain free/transparent and incredibly detailed.

liquid smooth is what comes to mind when i have to describe the sound.

cant imagine listening to any other type of amp now. :)

building a multi-channel gainclone for my ht system !! :)

cant think of anything i dont like about the sound.

hope this helps.
