NOOB Question: Computer far from DAC

I have a large iTunes library of mostly classical music on an iMac and would like to output that to my stereo system. There are two twists:

1) The music library is mostly classical and I want easy ways to search/organize by the period, style, composer, and performers (I've done this now in iTunes). I don't like any iPhone/iPad control app that I've seen so far. This rules out various network players as I want to be able to control it from the desktop computer.

2) The desktop computer has to be located away from the stereo in another corner of the same room (>5m distance).

Known options:
- iMac -> (AirPlay over ethernet or wifi) -> Apple TV -> (Toslink) -> DAC {current set up}
- iMac -> (AirPlay over ethernet or wifi) -> Airport Express -> (Toslink) -> DAC {any better?}
- iMac -> (AirPlay over ethernet or wifi) -> Arcam AirDAC -> (SPDIF) -> DAC {any better?}
- iMac -> (Linn Songcast over ethernet or wifi) -> [Linn DAC] {expensive}
- Mac Mini remote controlled by the iMac -> (USB) -> DAC {screen sharing is laggy}

What other options are there? Ideally, I'd like to be able to play hirez files and AirPlay is limited to 48kHz/16bits.

Thanks for any suggestions!
