Re: What Is The Very Best Vintage Receiver?

Difficult if not impossible to answer - Marantz is not overrated, just overpriced. Most all of their 70's receivers are excellent. McIntosh Mac 1900 and their off-brand Stereotech 1200 are great receivers. Any Pioneer receiver from the SX-1010 and higher (SX-1050, SX-1280, etc on up to the SX-1980) is excellent. I would stay away from all other Pioneers since some lower-numbered models tend to have problems. 70's Sansui models over about 50 watts per channel are good. Other brands to research are Rotel, Onkyo, and the like - they all had decent models at one time during the 70's. The great thing about some of these is that they're affordable and still plentiful on ebay - you just have to be careful who you buy from and ask plenty of questions before you buy.
