Nocturne:

And believe me the fall from solid state or push/pull is wonderful!

Doc packs em pretty well. So even the bunglers at UPS( I work
there on midnight shift as well as full time here at Kimber)won't
likely screw them up.

Oh are you in for some fun! The tweaks have moved them up a few
notches but they are amazing even when first fired up.

I gather the Sovteks are the budget choice. I would imagine they
aren't quite as musical or dynamic as the Vaic mono's but
they are a fraction of the price. I suspect Jack G could give you
a good sense of the difference. You might check his archived
posts on Tube Assylum.
No I haven't heard them. I'm trying to sell my soul for some meshplates!!!

Definetly do the snubber circuit mentioned on bottlehead. A hierachial
star ground scheme will also noticeably lower the noise floor and
slightly lower the AC hum. It wasn't that hard to do and it allowed
to clean up my first amps slightly nasty solder points.

While the basic Dale resistors are fairly good, you'll notice a real
improvement with Rodersteins, Holco's or my current Favorites: Mill's
non-inductive wirewounds. Put a high quality AC cord on them. If
you do the basic ground bus, you can tie the AC ground to the RCA
ground.(Doc's suggestion).

I think it best to build the thing per Doc's instructions and then
go wild part by part. By the time your done you'll know these
beasties like the back of your hand and as Harvey(Dr.Gizmo)Rosenberg
would say "you can become your own Techno-Shaman."

Good Luck and have fun,

James W.
