Send me the circuit schematic and I will check to see if you are telling the truth. With gain of one, either you are using cathode follower, which isn't exactly 1, or you are tapping the plate resistor for no gain, low impedance, or using multiple tubes in low output impedance configuration, which can be a sonic flop. What is the load capacitance of the tube? The resistance load also?
