Let's not toss out all the measurements because we don't know how to measure everything

Pink noise SPL measurements tell us if the volume control setting is likely to sound very loud and potentially damage our hearing.

Dynamic range measurements of the software can suggest whether the music will sound natural (an unusually small dynamic range may sound bad)
or exceeed the capabilities of the stereo (extreme dynamic range/loud bass)

Intermodulation distortion levels well above average suggest the stereo will sound better at modest SPL's.

Bass harmonic distortion levels above 10% suggest which very low frequency bass notes are likely to sound 'colored'

Sine wave SPL measurements at the listeners ears will reveal whether the bassline heard is close to the bassline recorded

1/3 octave smoothed pink noise measurements usuaing a microphone array will reveal any gross frequency response problems (bass roll-off under 60 Hz. for example) at any one seat, although high frequency curve preferences seem to vary greatly among listeners.

All these measurements won't reveal whether you'll like Barry Manilow Sings Jimi Hendrix, but they can suggest potential problems with the stereo playing Barry Manilow.

The stereo systems whose measurements reveal the fewest potential problems are MORE LIKELY to be favored by most listeners over stereo systems whose measurments suggest the most potential problems.

And of course for the Audio Amish:
Measurements don't matta when you gots vinyl and toobs.
