Yes, I know what you mean. As a recording engineer, when I hear a digital recording that sounds good I can't help but think "how good would it sound if it were all analog?"

Using 24bit digital multitrack you get to think "this sounds OK". Then a client comes in and they want to use the 2" (ampex MM1200) WOW, what a difference. Same mics, same mic-pre's, same room, same engineer (me) but what a more convencing sound.

You know when you can walk from the control room to the studio and back again in just a few seconds you get to know when the sound is right. With digital it's just never quite right. But that's just my opinion....
