Hah! That's nothing compared to...

...rec.audio.opinion. That group seems to be nothing but two groups of people hurling insults at each other. If you were to somehow read the posts of the group without knowing its nominal topic, it would be pretty darned hard to tell that it was an audio-related group at all. The "Foghorn Leghorn of objectivism" is pretty tame by those standards :-).

As far as "the great debate" is concerned, I've found it to be pretty much non-productive. Seems like everybody is predisposed to a certain view, and I can't seem to remember a single case where anybody has changed their view as a result of the discussion. I've pretty much given up on that aspect of the discussion for that reason. I do break my own rule at times if I perceive that someone has a marketing agenda and is using the forum as a propaganda tool though.
