First off, I returned the Tao to Steve as I had already found interconnects that I was completely in love with, these being the Xtreme Cables X2 and X5 offerings from Brian Kyle. Even though Steve knew that I was in infatuated with the Xtreme's he offered me a trial anyway to satisfy my curiosity.I auditioned the following balanced interconnects between my DAC and amps and settled on the Xtreme Cables X2 as the right choice for my setup.
VH Audio Pulsar
Grover/Wolff Empress
Xtreme Cables X2, X4, and X5
Q Audio TaoSteve's cable were notable in the resolution and soundstage/imaging categories as were the Grover/Wolff Empress. In the final analysis they did not provide enough weight to be completely satisfying in my lean leaning system. The Tao's bass performance was significantly better than the Empress' however. All of the cables mentioned offer exceptional performance. I haven't heard the new Empress offered my Michael Wolff. Grover Huffman wrote to me saying that he has solved the bass deficiencies that I had noted. The VH Audio Pulsar is an incredible cable as well, but fell slightly short in the resolution department when compared to the other three.
I have reconfigured my system supports, gaining additional weight in the process, so it would be interesting to see where the cables I rejected would rank now.
