Help! I'm a "Digital Doofus."

While I was perfecting (ahem!) my vinyl system over the last 60 years to its present state of gorgeousness, the digital revolution left me pretty far behind. Now I am struggling to catch up in a world of FLAC, modem, SPDIF, ETHERNET, Roon, J River, Ladder DAC, Blue Ray, up-sampling and many other terms, with more every day. Some of these digi-speak terms I am passingly familiar with; others not at all.

Trouble is, one of these days (hopefully a long time from now) I will have to leave my vinyl behind when my wife and I move into a two-room graduated care facility and I will be left with digital only. A techie buddy has helped me put together a pretty nice computer-based digital system, but although I nod knowingly when he explains something, I really don't get it (and, of course, he knows it).

What I would like is an end-to-end digital tutorial from source (CD, download, streaming, etc.) to amplifier output, with all the hardware, software, gozintas and gozoutas in between. A diagram would be nice.

Can anyone help me out by suggesting how I can get such a tutorial?

Thanks
