I have owned Duos for about 2 1/2 years and have yet hear anything that I prefer at any price, except possibly Trios. Duos are certainly not 'perfect', but they manage a damn good attempt at conveying the realism of musical performances. I don't mean creating the same experience as the live occasion which, in my opinion, is not usually possible with an audio system, other than small scale performances. I mean the feeling that the essential calibre of instruments and voices is reproduced accurately and pleasingly.I listened to the Solos for a short time at the Hi-Fi Show in London in September. Serious assessment was not possible under show conditions, but I thought they sounded better than most of the other speakers I heard there. Maybe I'm just attuned to the Avantgarde sound? However, as far as I was able to judge, they were not as good as the Duos.
Holger Fromme from Avantgarde was at the show. He was obviously proud of the Solos, but he commented that they are not in the same league as the Duos. I guess he should know.
