Home High Efficiency Speaker Asylum

Need speakers that can rock with just one watt? You found da place.

RE: Do you mean...

Claude, what could be better than powering a highly efficient loudspeaker with a highly efficient amplifier?

Just because a Class-D amplifier can be designed to provide hundreds of watts, that doesn't mean it has to be. If one were designed to switch 5-10 volts instead of 50-100, the power would be down in the single-watt range but the modulator frequency could perhaps be in MHz instead of hundreds of kHz. As I mentioned in my other message, audio quality might improve ... but perhaps more important than that, the amplifier would be tiny and it could even be powered with a battery. No more heat sinks, no more power cords, no more 60Hz hum. Multi-amplification could be trivially easy and inexpensive, making time-alignment of horns more practical.
